Il supporto per Secure Boot è stato introdotto in Windows 8 e supportato anche da Windows 10 e Windows 11.
All’avvio del PC, il firmware controlla la firma di ogni parte del software di avvio, inclusi i driver del firmware (Option ROM), le applicazioni EFI e il sistema operativo. Se le firme sono buone, il PC si avvia e il firmware dà il controllo al sistema operativo.
